About us..

Pet Owners First Aid is born from the passion of Kerry Stubbs. A Registered Veterinary nurse with the certificate in Emergency and Critical Care who qualified in 1999 and still works within the Kent area. She decided to branch out and deliver Animal First Aid courses aimed at pet owners and those working within the pet industry such as groomers, dog walkers, kennel and cattery staff and animal boarders. The course is fully accredited with AMTRA (offers 14 points), CPD UK (offers 3 CPD hours (vets and nurses must take notes)) and Canine Hydrotherapy Association for refresher courses (offers 4.5 CPD hours).
Alongside the courses she has put together first aid kits and also writes a host of articles regarding a wide variety of pet related subjects, these are available via PetOwnersFirstAid.com.

I started small animal veterinary nursing in 1995 and became qualified in 1999. Less than a year later I moved to a new surgery and became a Head Nurse where I trained a student veterinary nurse over two years before she become qualified.
After travelling the world for a year I began to locum at various different small animal first opinion practices in Kent before embarking on working within the out of hours, Emergency and Critical Care field. During this time I became a Senior Nurse and then a District Senior Nurse running and supporting out-of-hours clinics and the clinical teams within them and in 2016 I gained my Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care.
During my veterinary nursing career I have worked with a wide variety of other species while volunteering, the highlight being working in Borneo with Orangutans; a truly amazing experience. Other volunteering experiences have been at Gweek Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall, African Dawn Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa, and several trap, neuter and release trips for cats in Europe.
There were too many occasions to count that I witnessed traumatised owners with sick or injured pets coming into the out of hours veterinary hospital feeling guilty, inadequate and incredibly upset about the situation their beloved animal was in. Many of them felt they could/should have done more for their animal and lived with unjustified guilt for days, weeks, months and even years to come despite the veterinary team doing their best to counsel and reassure them. This is what inspired me to start delivering animal first aid courses to pet owners. Pet owners and those who care for other people’s pets need to know they have done their best and, in some cases, acting quickly can make a huge difference to the outcome of the animal, this is what drives me to share my skills and knowledge. My priority is always the animal and in educating owners or those that care for pets there is a much higher chance the animal will to live life at its very best.
